How ranking works

Placement matches seed a hidden rating that decides who you meet; from there every series moves LP. Below Abyssal I a division is 100 LP, and a fresh promotion is shielded from the first losses at 0 LP. At Abyssal I the LP keeps counting; when it reaches the live cutoff a best-of-5 series opens the next rank, and each elite rank opens with its own series. Leaderboard positions are re-ranked as results come in. Defense losses pay less LP and after five in a day cost none. An elite rank's LP decays after a week away; standard ranks never decay. A season ends with LP at 0, standard ranks one tier down, elite ranks on Abyssal I and placements again.
